there's a city underground / and the weather is raging / the bricks are falling down / and the lanterns are fading / the city peels like bark / with colonies of ants in sight / i stand lost in all the dark / amongst the zombies of the night. / there's an elevator shaft / with a cranking motor hum / from the ocean comes a draft / til our skin feels like carborundum / the pin light of cigarettes / from the skeletal scaffolding (i waited there) / as the sedated sun sets / i wonder where i'm truly going. / the scent of the stale first aid kit / broken supplies and tins / spilled across the car in transit. / alone in bed static snaps / with every bed sheet fold / as into the covers i collapse. / in limbo on the interstate / til i cannot drive anymore / then to hotels of Norman Bates / and sleep in the hallway floor / dreaming of shepherds or the wolves - they are often one in the same / til i stumble back to the car / through the pins and needles of rain.
